The Dusken Coast is personal map project I undertook after a period of cartographic inactivity. My creative energy had been building and I wanted to challenge myself to create something using a different color palette than often appears in my own maps – and indeed maps generally. I also hoped to put my new design tablet to use to create better mountain illustrations and illustrative elements that add flavor to the map as a whole. I settled on this dark palette to evoke a feeling of twilight and gloom. I believe the illustrative elements represent a success; the corner decorations match the overall style, and the mountains are certainly a step forward when compared to my illustrative mountains of the past.
